Ingredients
For the filling:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or any tart variety), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
For the crumble topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (around 8x8 inches) or a similar-sized dish.
2. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix well and then spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
3. Make the crumble topping: In another bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold, diced butter to the mixture. Using your fingers, a fork, or a pastry cutter, mix the ingredients together until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Assemble the crumble: Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
5. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
6. Serve: Allow the crumble to cool slightly before serving. It’s delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Make your own homemade ice cream with this recipe here!
