Ingredients:
1 cup (240 mL) distilled water
½ teaspoon salt (sodium chloride)
1 teaspoon white vinegar
Equipment:
Sodium Hypochlorite Generator
Glass or PET bottle for storage (avoid metal)
You can follow this link to purchase your sodium hypochlorite generator and start making your own safe, effective, and eco-friendly cleaning solution at home.
Instructions:
Prepare water & salt:
Use distilled or filtered water to avoid minerals interfering with electrolysis.
Add the amount of salt specified by your generator instructions.
Electrolyze:
Turn on the generator according to manufacturer directions.
It will produce a solution of HOCl/NaOCl at a safe concentration for household cleaning.
Adjust pH (optional):
For more active HOCl (milder smell, stronger disinfectant), you can add a teaspoon of vinegar per liter after generation to bring the pH closer to 5–6.
Avoid over-acidifying—it may damage surfaces.
Storage:
Store in a dark, airtight bottle, preferably in the fridge.
Keep away from heat and sunlight.
Shelf Life:
Freshly made: Most potent for 24–48 hours.
Fridge storage, dark bottle: Up to 7–10 days, gradually losing potency.
Uses:
All-purpose disinfectant: Kitchen surfaces, bathrooms, doorknobs, high-touch areas.
Deodorizer: Garbage bins, pet areas, laundry.
Mold & mildew: Spray lightly on affected areas and wipe.
Pet-safe surfaces: Light misting on cages or play areas.
Food contact surfaces: Safe for counters, cutting boards, utensils (rinse afterward if desired).
⚠️ Safety: Avoid mixing with ammonia, bleach, or other chemicals. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
