Inspired Creation: Drawing Salve
While cleaning out my grandparents' house after my grandmother passed, I found an old jar of drawing salve. My grandfather needed help clearing out many items he no longer needed as he prepared for in-home care in his later years. The original drawing salve had very simple ingredients, including activated charcoal, which sparked my curiosity. I went to the kitchen and started testing out some concoctions, and let me tell you, this salve is amazing!
It helps with bug bites, slivers, scrapes, cuts, and more, effectively drawing out any infections that may have started or preventing them from even happening.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Activated Charcoal: Helps draw out impurities.
- 1/2 cup Beef Tallow: Moisturizing and rich in nutrients for skin healing.
- 2 tbsp Beeswax: Provides structure and makes the salve more solid.
- 1 tbsp Bentonite Clay (optional): Further helps with drawing out toxins.
- 10 drops Tea Tree Oil: Natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.
- 5 drops Lavender Oil (optional): Soothing for skin irritation.
Instructions:
1. Melt the beeswax and tallow: In a double boiler, melt the beef tallow and beeswax over low heat until fully liquid.
2. Add activated charcoal and bentonite clay (if using): Stir these into the melted mixture slowly until well combined.
3. Add essential oils: Remove from heat and mix in tea tree oil and lavender oil, if desired.
4. Pour into containers: Once everything is well mixed, pour the salve into small glass jars or tins.
5. Let it cool: Allow the salve to solidify at room temperature before using.
How to Use:
Apply the salve to areas of skin where you want to draw out splinters, toxins, or impurities. Cover with a bandage and leave it on for several hours or overnight.
