Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 4-5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm water and yeast. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Add 4 cups of flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Using a dough hook attachment (if using a stand mixer) or a wooden spoon, mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
3. Once the dough comes together, transfer it to a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
4. After the dough has risen, gently punch it down and knead it on a floured surface for a few minutes.
5. Divide the dough into 24 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
6. Place the dough balls on a greased or lined baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Cover them loosely with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another hour.
7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
8. Once the dough balls have risen again, bake them in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
9. Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving with your favorite sloppy joe filling. Enjoy your delicious homemade buns!
