Simple and Delicious Stir-fry
customize with your favorite vegetables, protein, and sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) protein of your choice (chicken breast, beef sirloin, shrimp, tofu, etc.), thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (such as peanut, canola, or sesame oil)
- 3 cups mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, etc.), chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced or grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: chopped green onions, sesame seeds, crushed red pepper flakes
For the sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or lime juice
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
**Instructions:**
1. Prepare your protein: If using chicken, beef, or tofu, slice it thinly against the grain. If using shrimp, make sure they're peeled and deveined.
2. In a small bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients. If you like a thicker sauce, you can add the cornstarch to the sauce mixture.
3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan.
4. Once the oil is hot, add the protein to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper. Stir-fry until the protein is cooked through, then remove it from the skillet and set it aside.
5. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
6. Add the mixed vegetables to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
7. Return the cooked protein to the skillet with the vegetables.
8. Pour the sauce over the protein and vegetables in the skillet. Stir well to combine and coat everything evenly with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
9. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
10. Serve your stir-fry hot over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
